Tulane Head Coach Jon Sumrall’s Family Guide: Meet His Wife and 4 Kids

Jon Sumrall is juggling two major responsibilities at the moment: wrapping up his tenure as head football coach at Tulane University with an appearance in the College Football Playoff, and getting settled into his new position as head coach at the University of Florida.

After accepting the job as the new Gators head coach in November 2025, Sumrall decided to continue to lead his current team for the remainder of the season as they earned a coveted spot in the collegiate playoff bracket and a chance to compete for a national championship.

Sumrall — in just his second year coaching at Tulane — led the No. 17-ranked Green Wave to an American Conference Championship and an 11-2 record this year.

Originally from Huntsville, Alabama, Sumrall played football at the University of Kentucky until his senior season, when he was diagnosed with a spinal condition that forced him to hang up his cleats.

Before arguably the biggest game of his career, Sumrall announced the passing of his father in a statement posted on X on December 19.

“Dad was a fighter,” Sumrall said in the statement. “Dad being there for the conference championship game two weeks ago and then the press conference in Gainesville a couple days later are memories I will never forget. He was always there for me and I know he still will be watching!”

Keep scrolling to read more about Sumrall’s family: his wife, Ginny, and their four kids: Sam, Sadie, Stella and Selah.

Ginny

Ginny is from Huntsville (sharing a hometown with Jon) and the two were married there, although the exact year they tied the knot is not public. They met in high school.

In October 2025, she and Jon joined the Son of a Saint organization as ambassadors. Son of Saint is a New Orleans-based organization that aims to “transform the lives of fatherless boys through mentorship, emotional support, development of life skills, exposure to constructive experiences and formation of positive, lasting peer-to-peer relationships.”

“Jon and I were drawn to the work of Son of a Saint immediately,” Ginny said in a statement in October. “We are excited to join forces in serving the youth of our city.”

“Ginny and I are excited to partner with such a fantastic organization,” Jon added. “We value the mission and opportunities that are provided to young boys of New Orleans and look forward to being a part of that,” said Jon in a release about the announcement.”

In December 2025 — after Jon was announced as the new Florida Gators head coach — the couple made a $100,000 donation to Tulane’s support hall and Green Wave Talent Fund to help new head coach Will Hall with recruiting and financial support.

“Tulane University and New Orleans are special to me and my family,” Jon said in a statement. “Ginny and I are honored to support the Green Wave Talent Fund because we believe in the vision of Tulane Athletics and want to contribute to the continued success of its student-athletes. The future is incredibly bright, and we are excited for Will Hall and his family to be part of it.”

Sam and Sadie

The couple’s oldest are twins, born on their wedding anniversary (June 25) in 2013.

Jon posts an annual wedding anniversary/birthday post via social media to celebrate his family.

“June 25 is a BIG DAY in our house!” he posted via X this past summer. “Happy Anniversary to my wife Ginny! Happy 12th Birthday to Sam & Sadie!”

Stella and Selah

Jon and Ginny’s youngest kids were born in 2016 and 2018, respectively.
