Russell Westbrook Punished by NBA for Incident During Kings-Pistons Game

Russell Westbrook has found himself in a great situation with the Sacramento Kings this season and has produced good numbers once again.

Throughout his career, Westbrook has always been able to produce at a high level. However, he has developed a relatively bad reputation in recent years. Despite the outside noise, Westbrook has simply focused on playing his game.

At 37 years old, there is no doubt that Westbrook’s NBA career is starting to wind down. Even though he is no longer the elite superstar that he once was, his name still draws a lot of eyes.

Warriors Showing Interest in Surprising Trade Option

Keeping that in mind, Westbrook has been in the news a lot due to an incident that occurred when the Kings played the Detroit Pistons on Tuesday night.

On one specific play, Westbrook appeared to flop in an attempt to get a call. That action can draw a fine from the NBA.

Not only can it draw a fine, Westbrook was punished by the NBA for his flop on Wednesday. A $2,000 fine was handed down by the league to Westbrook.

“SAC’s Russell Westbrook was assessed a postgame Flopping fine of $2,000 upon league office review for (video of play) Dec. 23 vs. DET,” the NBA’s announcement of the news read.

So far this season in Sacramento, Westbrook has played in 30 games and made 24 starts. He has averaged 14.4 points per game to go along with 7.2 assists, 6.9 rebounds, and 1.5 steals, while also shooting 42.8 percent from the floor and 35 percent from three-point range.

Unfortunately, the team has not played very well so far this year. Through their first 30 games, the Kings have compiled a 7-23 overall record. Things can still turn around, but at this point Sacramento does not appear likely to have a shot at the playoffs.

Knicks’ 7-Footer Acquired in Karl-Anthony Towns Trade Spurns NBA for NCAA

Plenty of trade rumors have started circulating about the Kings. Westbrook has not been talked about much as a trade candidate, but that could change leading up to the NBA deadline.

Next up for Sacramento will be a matchup against the Dallas Mavericks on Saturday evening. Westbrook will enter that game with $2,000 less in his bank account than he previously had.
