Ohio State, Ryan Day Learn Big Recruiting News Amid CFP

The Ohio State Buckeyes and head coach Ryan Day are preparing for their New Year’s Eve matchup against the Miami Hurricanes, which will be their first matchup of this year’s College Football Playoff.

Entering the playoff this season, the Buckeyes hold the No. 2 seed in the field. They lost to the Indiana Hoosiers in the Big Ten championship as the No. 1 team in the country. Many believe that Ohio State is still the favorite to repeat as national champions.

In recent years, Day has done an excellent job of continually adding elite talent via the recruiting market and the transfer portal. He has turned the Buckeyes into a clear-cut yearly championship contender.

Alabama, Kalen DeBoer Receive Major News Amid College Football Playoff

Day is looking to continue that trend heading into the 2027 recruiting class. To that end, a big update has been shared on a top-tier recruit.

According to a report from college football insider Hayes Fawcett of On3 Sports, Ohio State has officially made the top-eight school list for five-star running back David Gabriel Georges in the 2027 class.

Hailing from Baylor School in Chattanooga, Tennessee, Georges stands in at 6-foot-0 and 205 pounds. He is currently ranked as one of the best players in the nation.

247 Sports has him ranked as the No. 2 running back in the 2027 class as well as the No. 14 overall player in the country.

Obviously, the Buckeyes are just one of many teams hoping to land his commitment. Fawcett shared the other seven schools who have made the group of finalists. Those schools are Georgia, Auburn, Miami, Tennessee, Texas, Alabama, and Ole Miss.

Notre Dame, Marcus Freeman Suffer Another Tough Transfer Portal Loss

Beating out all of those programs will be no easy task. However, if there was one head coach who could get something done with Georges, it would be Day. He has a knack for earning commitments, which can be seen by his ability to keep 2026 five-star wide receiver Chris Henry Jr. despite hard pushes from other schools.

It will be interesting to see if Ohio State can earn the final commitment and keep that commitment from Georges. This is a big-time update for the Buckeyes and Georges could end up being the next superstar running back for Ohio State if he chooses to commit to Day.
