New Option Emerges for Lane Kiffin Amid Ole Miss Meeting

Earlier this week Ole Miss head coach Lane Kiffin made it clear he loves Oxford, MS as the Florida Gators and LSU Tigers attempt to lure the hottest head coaching candidate to replace their fired coaches.

“I love it here, and it’s been amazing and we’re in a season that’s the greatest run in the history of Ole Miss, at this point, having never been at this point,” Kiffin said at the time. “So, I think it’s really exciting. I think Saturday night was amazing and so, I’m just living in the moment, that it’s amazing.”

Kiffin also addressed a report suggesting Ole Miss handed the coach an “ultimatum” which he shot down while revealing his “daily” conversations with athletic director Keith Carter. “I’m going to stay with what I’ve done for six years, which isn’t talk about other jobs and that situation,” Kiffin said. “Keith (Carter) and I, I’ve seen him twice already today. Keith and I have a great relationship, we communicate daily on a lot of things.”

While Kiffin downplayed the rumors of his potential exit, a new meeting has reportedly been set. Kiffin and Carter are set to meet on Friday, Nov. 21 – just days after his family visited both Gainesville and Baton Rouge.

As that meeting looms, USA Today floated a fourth – and fifth – option for Kiffin beyond staying at Ole Miss or leaving for Florida or LSU.

“We’re acting as if Kiffin has only three options: Ole Miss, Florida or LSU. Here’s a fourth: Stay at Ole Miss, coach the team in the playoff, and then if the program backslides next year, leave for whatever the best job is on the market, when accepting a new job doesn’t mean leaving a playoff team,” USA Today‘s Blake Toppmeyer said.

“Because, more good jobs will open in 2026 and ’27. This year, it’s Florida and LSU. Next year, who knows, maybe Texas and Alabama come open again. Maybe Michigan opens. I don’t know what’ll open next season. I only know that LSU and Florida won’t be the last two good jobs ever available, and Kiffin’s stock would remain hot after a playoff run this season.”

A fifth option – the NFL – also looms for Kiffin.
