The Toronto Blue Jays and the Los Angeles Dodgers squared off on baseball’s biggest stage less than two months ago. The 2025 World Series will be remembered as one of the most thrilling of the 2000s with its seven epic games.

The Fall Classic was broadcast on FOX with Joe Davis and John Smoltz behind the mic. Several fans took issue with Davis being the play-by-play commentator for the series given his ties to the Dodgers.
Davis has been the lead voice for the Dodgers on SportsNet LA since 2016, becoming the primary play-by-play announcer after the late Vin Scully retired.
Blue Jays manager John Schneider was made aware of Davis’ alleged bias toward the Dodgers in the World Series and acknowledged it during an appearance on Foul Territory.
Erik Kratz discussed Davis telling stories regarding Schneider’s playing days on the broadcast, to which the Blue Jays skipper replied: “So that was when the Dodgers were losing, he just wanted to fill the air. Because when they were winning, he was going crazy. I got a bone to pick with Joe. I wasn’t listening to the broadcast anyway. …We didn’t hear the broadcast, that was some complaints from some family and some friends and some other people around.”
Schneider then gave Davis his flowers for his impressive work during the World Series.
“He’s got one of the best voices in the game. I love his energy,” Schneider said of Davis. “He reached out to me before it even started. We saw him for three days in LA and he told me, ‘Hey, if you get to the postseason, I’m gonna cover you.’ I got all the respect in the world for him. He’s really cool. I think he’s really great at what he does, but I had to get that out there as a little subtle jab.”
Davis also remarked on his perspective commentating the World Series while also being the voice of the Dodgers throughout the regular season.
“These are exciting, highly emotional times as fans. It’s what makes sports great that we all get a little irrational at points. Dodgers fans are going to get upset that I get excited for the other team. The other teams are going to be upset if I’m the Dodger guy,” Davis told Awful Announcing.
All in all, Davis is a talented broadcaster who has managed to make the seamless transition from baseball to football year in and year out. However, he certainly didn’t help his case regarding any Dodgers bias when he hosted the team’s championship rally this November.
